Ken Harrison
Writer, Director

Ken Harrison is a writer and director who has worked on a variety of projects from feature films to television documentaries. The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded him three filmmaking grants, and he has also received production grants from the American Film Institute and the National Endowment for the Humanities. He has won the Texas Writers Recognition Award of the Texas Institute of Letters and was selected from among thousands of applicants to develop a screenplay at Robert Redford's Sundance Institute June Workshop.

Harrison has been a featured guest at screenings of his films at the Munich Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival, the U.S.A. Film Festival and the French-American Film Festival in Avignon, France. A member of the Texas Institute of Letters and the Writer's Guild of America, Harrison teaches a graduate Screenwriting class at the University of North Texas, Denton.

ON VALENTINE'S DAY , written by Horton Foote (winner of two Academy Awards), starring Matthew Broderick and Stephen Hill, concerns the conflict within a family after an elopement. Sundance Film Festival, Venice Film Festival. Released in 1986 by Angelica Films.

1918 , also written by Foote, starring Matthew Broderick, is the story of a young couple who overcome a personal tragedy after the flu epidemic of 1918. Berlin Film Festival, U.S.A. Film Festival. Released in 1985 by Cinecom Films.

THE JOHNNY CASH PROJECT , starring Mark Holly, is a free-wheeling, surreal biography set during a tour in the late 1960s in which the American icon confronts the demons of his drug addiction. For the FX Channel, scheduled for production later this year.

HANNAH AND THE DOG GHOST , 1982, is the suspenseful, poetic tale of a woman in search of her abducted child. Won First Prizes at the U.S.A. Film Festival and the San Francisco Film Festival among other awards. Distributed by Phoenix Films.

THE LAST OF THE CADDOES , 1981, based on the short story by William Humphrey (Home From The Hill) concerns ances­tral ties and family strife in depression-era Texas. Telecast on HBO and Cinemax cable services. Distributed by Phoenix Films.

MR. HORSE , 1976, is the moving story of an aging farmer fighting to save his dignity and his life during a hot summer in 1956. Critic's Choice Award, the American Film Institute. Distributed by Phoenix Films.

WISHBONE , 1995-96, a comedy-adventure series for PBS introducing children to the great works of world literature, is being telecast nation-wide. Harrison directed a total of 17 half-hour episodes for the two Emmy Award-winning seasons.
